Requirements and Rules
A link back to this site is not required, but is very much appreciated. Help promote this web directory by adding one of the codes on your site. Think of it this way: by placing a link to Glitter in return for being listed, you increase traffic to Glitter. Increased traffic to Glitter can eventually translate into increased traffic to your site. We link to you, you link to us: it's just good "netiquette".
Listing Standards
This is NOT an "elite" listing, but we do have a certain standard that we expect of the sites that are listed here:
- Submit as many sites as you want!
You may submit as many sites for inclusion in Glitter's directory as you'd like, so long as you are the owner of each site, and fill out an individual form for each site. Each site may only be listed once in the entire directory. Place it in the one category into which it best fits. (For an overview of Glitter's categories, visit the categories page in the Directory section.) - NO COMMERCIAL WEBSITES.
Commercial websites will not be listed. These are sites that typically sell products or provide information of a commercial nature. Please keep advertising to a minimum on noncommecial websites as well - if advertising is excessive, we will consider it a commercial website. Pay-Per-Post style websites are considered commercial and will not be listed. - Offensive or inappropriate websites will not be listed.
We will not accept sites that contain inappropriate material (e.g. pornography, hate material, warez, or "how to hack" information). Profanity is acceptable as long as it is not overly excessive. Sites with artistic (or otherwise unobtrusive) nudity may or may not be accepted/approved, at our own discretion. If your site includes nudity of any kind we ask that you mention of such in your listing's summary/description. - Distasteful or otherwise annoying websites will not be listed!
Sites that employ use of "sticky caps" (My nAmE iS DoH), excessive and/or obtrusive animated Gif images, PageBuilder (Geocities) templates, or multi-coloured, ill-designed or contrasting colours are, in our collective opinion, in exceedingly poor taste (and are, we feel, quite annoying), and will not be listed. It is Glitter's intention to not blind people. - Freeserver sites are scrutinized closely.
Sites on free-servers with advertisements, such as Yahoo!'s Geocities, may be submitted, but will be scrutinised closely, and will be listed only if we find them to be well-designed. If your site has in excess of one pop-up (or obtrusive "inline") advertisement, your listing will be removed from the queue, and will not be listed. Sites hosted on MySpace.com, Piczo.com, Expage.com, Angelfire.com, Envy.nu, Xanga.com, or AOL Hometown will not be accepted. (Rejected servers are not limited to this list, and said list should not be considered comprehensive.) There are many good free hosts to choose from, like FreeHostia or 50Webs. - We do not list graphic or content thieves/copiers.
The content (including graphics and text) on any site submitted to Glitter must be the property of said site's owner, or be used used with distinct, legal permission. If we believe, for any reason, that anything on any site, either currently listed or in the queue, has been copied or otherwise stolen from anyone else, we will remove said site from the listing or queue. Sites may also be removed from the listing if we receive complaints regarding any form of copyright infringement. It is not only bad "netiquette" to steal graphics, layouts, or content from others — it may also be illegal. - REDIRECT URIS WILL NOT BE LISTED.
There are no exceptions to this rule, and it is not negotiable. Sites that make use of redirecting URIs such as .cjb.net, .dot.nu, .tk, etc (this list is not comprehensive) will not be accepted if a redirect URI is used in a site's submission to Glitter. Redirects can (and often do) slow loading time, add advertisements, etc. If submitted, the listing will be removed from the directory or queue. Submit your real URI. (Please note that we will not reject listings that simply use redirects: if you provide your real URI to us, your site will be approved [provided it follows our other guidelines and/or meets our other requirements], regardless of if you use a redirect elsewhere.) - Active sites only, please.
Please do not submit a site to Glitter if it is currently on hiatus, or is under major construction or re-construction. We are also not fond of sites that are often on hiatus, or are on extended hiatus. The very point of Glitter's directory is to both increase traffic to various sites, and for other visitors to discover or find sites they may enjoy visiting; sites that are on (or are frequently on) hiatus or under major construction hold little to no appeal for visitors, and thus benefit no one. "Friends Only" journals (or those with predominately password-protected websites) are also fairly useless to the directory and will not be accepted. - Keep your site information simple, short, and to the point.
Listing descriptions and titles should be thought of as summaries. They may not contain profanity or non-alphanumeric characters. If such words or characters are included in the title or description of any submission, they may be removed at our sole discretion. Certain characters are simply untidy, and while we do not strive for a "professional" feel at Glitter, we do not feel comfortable allowing certain characters into any site's description. Also, certain characters interfere with Glitter's internal coding.
Such banned characters include {, }, &, <, >, excessive spaces, "smilies", quotations in the site name (these do interfere with Glitter's code), and/or asterisks. We will edit the titles and/or descriptions of listings containing such characters, and if they otherwise meet our criteria and standards, they will still be approved/listed. - You must tell us the language of the website if it is not English.
Site descriptions should describe to the visitor what said website is about and what language it is in. If you do not tell us the language of the site, we reserve the right to remove the listing from the queue. Non-English websites must of course still meet the rest of the requirements in order to be approved/listed.
If a single rule is broken, or area of our criteria or standards not met, your submission will be purged from the queue, and will not be listed. Also, if for any reason any site becomes inappropriate, inaccessible, or suddenly does not meet our requirements or standards at any time, we may delete your listing. These rules and standards are in place to serve the purpose of preserving the integrity of this directory, and therefore keep it useful to both visitor and site owner.
