FAQ
Please read through the following questions (and their answers) before contacting us with questions, as you may be able to find a sufficient answer below. If after reading through the below, your question is still unanswered, feel free to contact us.
- Who runs Glitter?
Glitter was created in the spring of 2002 by Michelle, and is one of the premier non-commercial, “personal” website directories. In the spring of 2003, Shannon took over as general manager of the site, and in the summer of the same year, Ang became co-owner. - Do you need any more staff?
At any given time we may or may not be actively seeking new crew members. If we are, there will be a notice on the front page of the site. At the present moment, we are not currently in need of any further crew or staff. - Why am I not listed?
There could be several reasons why a certain site cannot be found at Glitter. Feel free to contact us if you are still unsure of why your link is not listed.- It may not have been submitted. You will see a confirmation message on the page if your submission went through.
- Said site could have been deleted while still in the queue if it did not meet our outlined standards.
- It may have been lost if listed prior to 28 November 2011, when our database was updated to WordPress.
- Said site may have been deleted after a site-check. Glitter’s staff regularly goes through the categories, checking each website. If one of the sites no longer meets our standards, it is removed.
- Your website/host may have been down during a site-check and was assume to no longer be active. (You may resubmit.)
- How often do you update?
Links are approved (or denied) within a couple days of submission. If your site has not been added within a month from the date of submission, it is safe to say there was either an error with your application, or your site was removed from the queue. - How do I edit or delete my listing after my site is listed?
Log in here, click Listings in the left-hand column of your dashboard. You should see all your listings. Select the listing you’d like to edit. (Please remember we do go through all the listings. If things are added later that are questionable, we reserve the right to change your listing to an un-published “Draft” until the questionable content is removed.) - How do I add/update my featured image after my site is listed?
Log in and navigate to your listing as outlined in #5. When in the page to edit an individual listing, toward the bottom of the right-hand column, you will see a box titled “Featured Image”. Click on “Set featured image”.

When the dialog box comes up, select the screenshot file saved on your computer, and upload.

When the image is finished uploading, select “Use as featured image”. (Insert into Post will only add it to your description and will not show up in the category page like the other rectangular screenshots.)

When you see your new screenshot in the “Featured Image” box of the right-hand column, scroll up to the top and hit Update on the right!

- I registered, but suddenly WordPress doesn’t recognize my username? What happened?
Oops! If you’ve registered and gotten your New User email, and later your info no longer works, that could be our fault. Wordpress attracts a lot of “user spam”: spammers who sign up as a user and either do nothing or try to post their spam to the blog. We periodically go through the users and remove the ones that look like they could be spam users. Our mistake!
One good way to make sure you’re unlikely to be mistaken for a spam user is to use a Gravatar image with your email address. We have yet to come across a spammer with a Gravatar linked to their email. Also try to avoid usernames with a lot of weird combinations of letters and numbers. You may contact us to make sure we accidentally removed you. Please feel free to register again!
